Dr. Jennifer Serne is an Associate Professor and program director for the Occupational Safety and Health Management masters degree programs at Central Washington University. As a consultant she is best known for her advanced training in accident causation theories and analysis methods and human factors, which she has applied to independent fatality investigations of construction and manufacturing accidents, aviation disasters, fatal medical mistakes, crowd crush events, mass fatality assembly occupancy fires, and building collapses for various clients across 36 states and 6 countries. She has a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and a Masters degree in Safety Science. Her research interests include human behavior in emergencies, automation dependency and mode confusion, the application of accident causation models, the attribution of blame during investigations, and cognitive bias and storytelling in post event learning.
