Susan Blackburn, STS-C is a safety and health professional with more than 35 years of experience spanning nuclear power operations, OSHA, safety and health management, and Human and Organizational Performance (HOP). Throughout her career, she has led multiple high-impact safety initiatives, including efforts that achieved a 93% reduction in personnel injuries and earned the DOE Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star designation.Susan previously served as the HOP Manager at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and is now easing into retirement while still passionately advocating for learning, improvement, and safer work. She is widely recognized by her peers as a champion of continuous improvement and performance assurance in complex operations.She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Tennessee–Chattanooga and an MBA from the University of Tennessee–Knoxville.Outside of work, Susan has been married for 37 years (to the same man) and is the proud parent of three adult children, eight grandchildren, and three grand-dogs. She is a certified Master Gardener and enjoys hiking, traveling, and scuba diving.
